Penalizedlocalpolynomialregressionforspatialdata
Whenperformingspatialregressionanalysisinenvironmentaldataapplica-tions,spatialheterogeneityintheregressioncoefficientsisoftenobserved.Spatiallyvaryingcoefficientmodels,includinggeographicallyweightedregres-sionandsplinemodels,arestandardtoolsforquantifyingsuchheterogeneity.Inthispaper,weproposeaspatiallyvaryingcoefficientmodelthatrepresentsthespatiallyvaryingparametersasamixtureoflocalpolynomialsatselectedlocations.Thelocalpolynomialparametershaveattractiveinterpretations,indicatingvarioustypesofspatialheterogeneity.Insteadofestimatingthespatiallyvaryingregressioncoefficientsdirectly,wedevelopapenalizedleastsquaresregressionprocedureforthelocalpolynomialparameterestimation,whichbothshrinkstheparameterestimationandpenalizesthedifferencesamongparametersthatareassociatedwithneighboringlocations.Wedevelopconfidenceintervalsforthevaryingregressioncoefficientsandpredictionintervalsfortheresponse.Weapplytheproposedmethodtocharacterizethespatiallyvaryingassociationbetweenparticulatematterconcentrations(PM2.5)andpollutantgasesrelatedtothesecondaryaerosolformulationinChina.Theidentifiedregressioncoefficientsshowdistinctspatialpatternsfornitrogendioxide,sulfurdioxide,andcarbonmonoxideduringdifferentseasons.

王武，中国人民大学数理统计系讲师，沙特阿拉伯阿卜杜拉国王科技大学博士后，复旦大学数理统计博士。主要研究方向是函数型数据分析、空间数据分析、机器学习和深度学习方法在能源、工业领域的应用等。成果发表于Biometrics，ScandinavianJournalofStatistics等期刊。

孙怡帆，中国人民大学统计学院副教授，博士生导师。数理统计系系主任，全国工业统计学教学研究会第九届理事会理事。主要研究方向为复杂数据分析、网络分析、最优化方法等，在StatisticsinMedicine，统计研究等学术期刊发表论文20余篇，主持国家和省部级等项目6项。
